Movie Review: the good and the bad

 Crazy, Stupid, Love

Why I rented the movie: It looked cute (i didnt really remember the previews), I like Steve Carell and Emma Stone.

Biggest complaint: The whole way they portrayed marriage and love just didn't sit right with us, maybe its because we are still newlyweds and what not but we just didn't get the humor in it all.
I don't know what it was, maybe we weren't in the right mood but I rented this movie a few weeks ago and we HATED it. I usually don't hate movies, this was an exception. We actually didn't even get through the whole thing, we took it out.

Advice: don't rent it, its not even worth the $1.27 red box charges

Water for Elephants

Why I rented the movie: I remembered that the trailer looked good (the movie came out back in April). I didn't see it when it came out but have been wanting too. On Saturday Brian went to a little bachelor party for his old roommate and I wanted to watch a movie to keep me company.

Review: I'm not going to lie, I rented the movie on Saturday... didn't watch it... and each day after i went to watch it but I wasn't really into it. I started thinking it was going to be boring. Last night I FINALLY put it in. and i LOVED it!!!! Brian loved it too! It was so good! it was a love/suspense/action/drama all in one. Reese Witherspoon did an amazing job and surprisingly so did Robert Pattinson. I actually think it's his best movie I've seen (and I'm a twilight fan!). Its definitely an adult movie, not for little kids. But over all there isn't much to complain about. No excessive use of bad words and for a PG-13 it was pretty low key in the romantic area.

Advice: If you haven't seen it, go to the nearest red box and rent it! It is definitely worth the $1.27! I just returned it but have a feeling I will be watching it again soon!

A word of Advice: take my advice with a grain of salt, everyone
lives different movies and you might have a different opinion then me but if your in the need
for a good movie, I would definitely think about renting Water for Elephants!

Dinner...

Hmmmmmm what to make for dinner...

I feel like I have this thought almost every night! Usually Brian helps decide (and cook, how did I get so lucky?) but tonight he is busy studying away for finals...

I'm a creature of habit and go back to the same dinner ideas almost every week...
but today, nothing sounds good :(

Oh well I did come up with something, this really yummy sweet and sour chicken recipe from our best bites. It so good! you should try it

One problem for the Gilbert household, we are missing one key ingredient! PINEAPPLE CHUNKS!!!!

Ahhhh I just got back from the store too! I guess thats why you should decide what you want for dinner BEFORE you go to the store :( and No I'm not going back, its not worth it, I dont want to waste the gas (if you know how close the store is to us, don't make fun), the time or go out in the cold (ps correction to my last post, it snowed today)

Does this ever happen to anyone else?
I hate missing one ingredient, especially an important one

Baby Its Cold Outside

Welcome to Rexburg Winters :)
It has been pretty cold these last few weeks, But we can't really complain!
Still no snow!

BUT it is still cold which make me day dream back to our honeymoon... it was nice and warm

Then I remembered I never posted pictures of our fun trip!!!
So here we go....

On our plane ride to Maui!!!
Brian set it up with Grandma and Grandpa Broadbent to stay at the condo! This is the view from our balcony! it was perfect!
Our first walk on the beach! We couldn't wait to put on our suits and go for a walk on the beach!

We made our own dinner one night! It was so fun to make our first real meal as husband and wife!

The island that we went snorkeling at! Molokini!
On our ride out to a snorkeling place! I got a little sea sick but over all it was a lot of fun!
One of the first places that we ate :)

My parents came here for their second anniversary (i think :) and have a picture right here!
We had to get some true tourist pictures
Brian being his dorky self
If you've ever been to Hawaii you know how expensive everything is! But we decided we wanted to make the most of our trip! never know when we will be back! We found this really yummy restaurant online and it was DELICIOUS! if you are ever in Maui go to Gerrard's!
our cute table on the porch
Brians yummy steak
my delicious halibut at crab
homemade sorbet!

no these aren't hamburgers... they are chocolate filled cream puffs

Isn't the restaurant so cute!!!

The cool car/truck we drove up to the zip line in!

We had to cross this scary bridge!

The zip line we were about to go on... or maybe from where we just cam? I can't remember
YAY for zip lining!

We survived the zip lining and had the best time!!!
The sign right by the condo sad DANGER!!!! dont worry we swam there anyways
I got a pearl at one of those stands! I've always wanted to do that and Brian let me :) I'm sure it was just because it was our honeymoon haha its kind of a tourist trap.

Our last breakfast in Maui, it was delicious! stuffed french toast with macadamia nuts and eggs benedict! YUMMM

Sad to be leaving Maui and our honeymoon :(

23 Adult truths

Okay I'm a sucker for things like this! I'll admit it I LOVE reading these things! they make me laugh because they are usually so true! Take a min and read this I promise you will smile too :)

1 Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How on earth are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind-of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Light than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time.

23. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important.
here is the website I got this from

Anthro Inspired

One of my favorite stores is Anthropologie
No surprise there, if you've ever been to one then you probably love it too
its hard not fall in love :)

However we are young married college students and cant
really afford my obsession....
SOOOO i use Anthropologie as my inspiration

EXAMPLE #1

This little beauty has been a huge inspiration to me
i LOVE mirrors
(I blame my mother, if you have ever been to our house we have at least one mirror in every room)
for starters this mirror collage is where I got the inspiration for our reception backdrop (pictures coming soon)
I also wanted it in my our apartment
unfortunately to buy it from Anthropologie would cost me about $700

so... I did what I do best and made it my self

I think it turned out pretty awesome! I got all the mirrors from antique stores and they were originally used for our wedding back drop.

So mine is a little smaller (4 mirrors as opposed to 7) but I still believe I saved about $300

Have you ever tried to take pictures of mirrors? its hard!

EXAMPLE #2
This awesome book wreath isn't actually sold at Anthropologie but it does have an Anthro look to it

I love it! I made a bunch of them this summer for a vintage craft fair My mom and I sold things at and they were a huge hit

They are kind of hard to travel with so I decided to make a new one when we got to Rexburg

Moral of the story:
If something is out of your price range don't be discouraged just find a way to make it for cheaper :)

HALLOWEEN!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!
HALLOWEEN is one of my favorite holidays and i have been secretly waiting for years to be married so we can have cute couple's costumes :)
and for our first married HALLOWEEN we went as.......

Dorothy and the Scarecrow :)

My mom helped me with my costume (thanks Mom!!!) and I did Brians all by my self... I'm pretty proud of it :) I think they both turned out great!
Yes if you were wondering we have straw floating around our house still :(
We had such a fun time at our ward party and I love an excuse to dress up for HALLOWEEN!

We found some other Wizard of Oz friends at our Halloween Party and had to get a picture of the
whole crew!

Getting ready to head out to our party!!!!

When you watched the Wizard of Oz growing up did you realize that Dorothy and
the Scarecrow were in love :) Well this Dorothy loves this scare crow!

I hope you all had a wonderful HALLOWEEN and at least ate some yummy candy!

Homemade apple sauce

During conference sessions at the beginning of the month I was feeling ambitious and domesticated...
I decided to make apple sauce!
I don't think I have ever made apple sauce before
and if i have it was when I was little and my mom did most of the work :)

This all came around because Brian's brother and sister-in-law brought us back a huge box of apple from their trip home to Washington at the end of September.

Brian and I were both eating an apple a day and we just couldn't eat them fast enough!
The apples were starting to get soft so I started being creative.
I made an apple pie and then I thought hmmmmm how about apple sauce!

It was also convenient that my mom sent us with a bunch of freezer jam when we moved down and so we had a bunch of empty canning jars!

here is how I made the apple sauce, if you were wondering :)

First you have to peel all the apples... Apparently some people leave the peel on and everything but that just wasn't for me :) It was very nice to have my apple peeler that I got from a shower!
Next, put the apples in a pot with a cup or so of water and let them cook until they are soft (about 20 min.)

After that you put the apple and the water (which is not flavored apple juice :) ) in a blender and mush it up.

Last heat it back up and add cinnamon and sugar to taste. then put it in the jars and boil them in a pot for 30 min to seal the lids!

AND NOW WE HAVE APPLE SAUCE :)

pre-wedding festivities

Also known as a bridal shower!

I was blessed to have more then one thanks to all of the amazing people in my life!

My first shower was put on by the ladies in my neighborhood! It was such a fun way to spend a night and I feel so blessed to have grown up with such amazing neighbors! it really is its own little family.
Amanda was in town for the shower and it was so fun to have her there!

Rachel came up from Oregon for the weekend and her and Val and Cindy planned an amazing shower! Thank you so much guys! It was such a great night and it was fun to spend an evening together just like when we were little :) thanks for being such great friends! even though we don't see each other much I know we will be friends forever.

My second shower was put on by my best friend Heather's mom and my neighbor Lynne. It too was a fun evening and I couldn't have asked for more love and support then I was given by this group of amazing friends! Unfortunately we didn't get very many pictures! :( here are some of the ones we did get!

The cute table decor
well We did get a cute pic with me and my girlfriends that were there but not on my camera.... this picture however shows us cleaning up an accident by a little baby I was holding... nothing like getting you ready for marriage and starting a family by getting peed on by a baby :) totally wort it!

Thanks everyone who came to my bridal showers and for all the support we were given while getting ready to be married and since!
